The TANGO SOCIAL CLUB OF CANBERRA present:
Canberra, 28 November - 4 December 2019
Rodrigo Palacios and Agustina Berenstein
Workshops & private lessons
Musicality & social dancing No long sequences! Womens & mens technique
“Rodrigo and Agustina are excellent at diagnosing what is missing, and delivering key ideas effectively by flexibly adjusting to their students.” “They really go around and help everyone during the class.”
These workshops are firmly based around musicality and techniques for social dancing, using small chunks of movement. So, there will be NO learning of long step sequences. There will be regular partner changes to ensure fair learning opportunities for everyone. The TSCC believe Rodrigo and Agustina's workshops will benefit our community – so the workshop price is set very low. Come to the whole thing — and by having lots of us there, we will be able to review and practice together while waiting for their return.
Workshop 1: Men’s & Women’s technique
Friday 29 Nov 7:00 - 8:30pm
Action and reaction, technique and compatibility. Rodrigo and Agustina will show us how to understand each other better in our dance. Some foundation techniques for social tango – the concepts covered will be used throughout the weekend.
Tango is a dance which is led and followed. How do we do this better? Listening to our partner’s body and adapting our dance to them is critical. And we need to send and receive signals clearly. Rodrigo and Agustina will also explore the lead and execution of the pivot as the basis of the dance and improvisation as a key tool for your tango. The different movements that the pivot allows us to do. And how to find playfulness in your dance.
Workshop 2: Tango part 1
Sat 30 Nov 11:00am - 12:30pm
Special tips for dancing in a close embrace: using the space, subtle vertical movements, and specific techniques to maximize your expression in the dance.
Workshop 3: Milonga
Sat 30 Nov 1:00 - 2:30pm
Rhythm for Tango and Milonga. Milonga in parallel and cross systems. Continuity in the rhythm and circular movements.
Workshop 4: Tango part 2
Sunday 1 December 12:00 noon - 1:30pm
Circular dynamics and spiral movements. Technique and training. Lead and execution. Key positions. The complex effect of the motion and its application to tango.
Workshop 5: Flow in vals
Sunday 1 December 2:00 - 3:30pm
We will explore the qualities of linear and circular movements. We will also look at the difference between musicality and musical interpretation. Rhythmic and flowing sequences/figures to practice different movements. Complexity in the combinations of elements and dynamics. Adapting the embrance/flexible ambrace
