Tango in the Spring - Make your bookings and payment now

October Long week end is fast approaching, and so is Tango in the Spring. 4 days of uninterrupted dancing, socialising with local and interstate tangueros and generally having a great time in our beautiful city. Please purchase your tickets now; $60 is a very good price for all these events and what a great way to perhaps introduce your friends to the delights of tango.

Volunteers and billets are still needed. I’ve got five people staying over, and am making salads. However hands are needed for many other things such as being part of the welcome team, helping set up the wonderful decorations Helen and Neil will be devising. If you can help, talk to Yuko and Gary. Tricia is organising volunteers, so please talk to her at El Boliche or at practica, to see how you can help.

Sat 18 September Milonga Dinner Dance 7pm til late

SC Bowling CLub McCaughey St Turner

It is a well known fact that conversations hardly ever finish at a milonga. So why don’t we get together socially, and chat, and then concentrate on the dancing? September’s is dinner dance month: the Turner Bowling Club could be a gentle introduction to those friends of yours considering a new form of entertainment. With dinner at the Bistro before hand, we can talk and laugh (and dance if we wish), digest, and then swing into a milonga.

The menu is basic Thai, the meals are largish, and the bar will be open for drinks.

Dinner is between 7-8pm. Dancing starts at 8pm with John V. as DJ.

Please let me know if you intend on having dinner This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Chacarera practise is on every saturday at the Ainslie St studio 135 Duffy St , 1pm

BASH bookings now open!

As if TiSP wasn't enough, we also have BASH! BASH (for those of you not in the know) is Buenos Aires in the Southern Highlands - also known as Bundanoon. Prepare for 2 days and 2 nights of full-on dancing and socialising with tangueros and tangueras from all over Australia! One of the attractions of Bundanoon as a destination is that it's a very small town so it's a great place to get to know people both on and off the dance floor - over coffee in one of the local cafes, at after-milonga parties by the fireside or with impromptu dances in the kitchen at breakfast-time ....

For more information on BASH, and online bookings, see our dedicated website http://bundanoon.weebly.com/. Even if you're not ready to book your ticket now, do book your accommodation - BASH is popular and we will book out every bed in town!

CROP PLANTS OF THE ANDES:

What would you do without chocolate?

The Andes are the world's longest continental mountain range. Running along the western coast of South America.  the Andes embrace tropical and subtropical latitudes with altitudes ranging from sea level to almost 7,000 m. - The Andes are home to more than 30,000 plant species, with roughly half of those being endemic to the region. Some of our most important crops originated from the Andes, among them the cosmopolitan potatoes, tomatoes and maize. And let's not forget cacao beans, the main ingredient of the indispensable chocolate. - The origin of crop plants does not cease to fascinate humankind, triggering a number of fundamental questions: When, where, how, why, and how many

times did crop domestication occur? What are the wild progenitors of these crops? What selective processes intervened?
